With the popularity and convenience of digital photography, it's easy to store your digital images on your computer and allow them to gather "dust". As stated above, you can print your digital images at home, but you will not get the archival, long-lasting quality as you do from Harold's Photo Centers.

You don't want to regret not printing your photos later. With all the computer viruses, and possibilities of deleting photos to free-up space on your computer or memory card, it's important to get those files printed or burned onto a Harold's Photo CD for safe keeping. Then you'll have photos to pass down through the generations.

Resolution & File Size

To achieve a printable quality image, you must set the resolution (image size) and the compression (file size) of the image before taking  the photo. The higher the number of pixels, the better the resolution. The higher the resolution, the larger and higher quality of prints you can make.

File Size Guidelines
(Recommended Minimum File Size at 150ppi)

Print Size Pixels .TIF .JPG
2½x3½ 375x525 550KB 100KB
4x5.4/4x6 600x900 1.5MB 300KB
5x7 750x1050 2.2MB 450KB
8x10/12 1200x1800 6.1MB 1.2MB
11x14 1650x2100 9.9MB 1.9MB
12x18 1800x2700 13.9MB 2.8MB*
16x20/24 2400x3600 24.7MB 4.9MB*
20x24/30 3000x4500 38.6MB 7.7MB*

*Larger files at 300ppi will produce better quality prints.

Image Quality

The quality of output is a direct result of the quality of the image or photo that you supply. If you use a low-resolution scan, the quality of the printing will be affected. If you upload a dark grainy photo, you may not be pleased with the results.

First Time Using an Online Digital Printing Service?
Beginners may want to first upload only a few images at a time to get an understanding of the process.

Having difficulty uploading your images?

Try this option:
> Alternate Upload Method  (Select under Step 2)

Slow Upload Speeds?
Several factors can contribute to a slow upload speed. Below are a few things to check:

The speed of your internet connection will determine your upload time and may not allow you to upload more than a few images in one session. Dial-up customers may experience the slowest upload times as broadband (DSL, Cable Modems) customers will experience faster upload speeds.

Follow our File Size Guidelines to make sure you aren’t uploading extremely large files which can slow down the upload process.

Try uploading smaller batches of images. Breaking up your order into several smaller orders may speed up the upload process. (To ensure quantity print pricing, indicate in the Special Instructions box of the order placement page that you are sending multiple orders.
